Circa 1900 Original Pipe Work - Estey
Consisting of Principals, Flutes, Strings, and an Oboe
Most borrowing is with the flute ranks. I believe independent principal 8&4
Rebuilt 1969 by Kennedy of Pittsburg
New in 1969 - Schantz Console
Approx 10-12 Speaking stops (Ranks) - No mixtures (yet)
Organ is in Playing condition and would require some maintenance after removal and installation to return it to optimum playing condition. Upon Removal - Buyer could easily facilitate adding an additional chest for a mixture or other stops. Several Stop tabs are available on the organ that could be used without modifying the console.
A Serious consideration!!! This organ is located on the ground floor in a room behind the chancel.
( Notice the photos and the door in the background!)
If you have ever been in a pipe chamber you will think you just went to heaven!
No Filth, No Dust, Plenty of Light, plenty of room to move around and work, and fresh air!
There is an outside door located just feet away and everything can be worked basically from ground level without having to climb ladders and move items through little doors or hatchways - or worse yet - lowering items from 30 feet to the ground.
Add to this, there are no steps to the church, just back up to the sidewalk and you are there!
This is a serious plus consideration in factoring your personal cost to remove the organ... It simply does not get much better than this - unless you are moving a little 3 rank unit organ!
Console finish is in very good condition - keyboards and stop action appear in good condition.
Due to a non humidified environment - there is obviously some leaking at some of the chest seams, etc but no cracked chests visible.
An Excellent candidate for rebuilding and expansion with direct electric.
As it is difficult to set a price on a used pipe organ - while we see many small organs of 3-5 ranks bringing $15,000-$25,000.00 - I have informed my clients that other factors will affect the end cost to the buyer. While we also understandable, an organ of 10 - 15 stops with the scaling capable of filling a room of 250 people is worth a significant amount of money when rebuilt, I is my suggestion to them that beauty will be in the eye of the beholder and therefore a reasonable asking price should be around $15,000 with my suggestion that ultimately, best offers should be considered.
I will say, that the organ has significant potential for organs of this period. Expect the principles to be consistent in scale and color with that of Johnson, Hook, and other typical New England Builders of this period.
